Get out and plant something today. A tree, a vegetable garden, or just a tomato plant. Some flowers would be lovely later this spring. I'm making light of it but it's true, you should be thinking about this stuff.
Sunday I went out and bought all my herbs for the season and a couple of container tomato plants as well. Then I really got the bug and bought some seed to plant around the bases of the trees in front of my office. It truly looks like hell during the summer here in the ghetto when there is NO green space to look at, and when your own workplace looks like a place Herman Munster would work. So I went downtown to work on Sunday morning when I knew no one was there so I could plant these seeds without detection. If they sprout it'll be a pleasant surprise. If they don't I'll be the only one disappointed. But I think they will, I bought easy stuff, like marigolds. They can be ignored and they'll be fine around here.
In further pursuit of earth day/week, whatever, I went home with the herbs and made some pots to put them in. Now all I have to do is glaze them and I'm good to go for the year. Well, not entirely, I have to make a decision about flowering plants. Last year I made a little privacy hedge on my balcony with Hibiscus. I've toyed with the idea of impatiens this year since the deck is so shady, but I still can't decide. The dilemma of my life...too many choices.
Reportedly it's going to be our nicest day so far in 2009, so I brought the bike this morning. I'm headed out around 2:30 to get started on my riding routine this year. Honestly, I'm a little bit excited about it. I love riding, it's good for me in so many ways, and as someone said recently, "A lot of old guys ride bikes."
If the shoe fits.
And speaking of organic:
