The soul has greater need of the ideal than the real for it is by the real that we exist, it is by the ideal that we live

I think we can make it

It's going to be a looong week or three until I get this semester done. I have homework of my own that needs doing and it's not getting done. I had a little access disaster last night and the assignment that 's due by midnight tonight will not be there on time. The photoshop project that's due Monday will likely suck unless I can figure out a way to spend the whole weekend on it, also unlikely.

Macbeth is giving me fits. I'm looking for a lightweight way to explore it textually with my students and that's not coming to fruition. I'm relying on the old adage, "Nothing clears away the neuroses like a deadline." But even that is failing me.

Work is more tense than ever, the boss didn't come in yesterday until after 3, and by that time we were all done and standing around talking. She's made herself irrelevant and now that she's heard the rumor that she's on a hitlist by the new administration she's sweating it. Understandably, but she's exactly the kind of target they're looking for right now. Well paid, not performing to potential, and close to retirement. I have this feeling that she's looking at a summer retirement THIS year instead of 2011 like she has planned. I'm sure that will hurt her financially, but in the end she'll be so much better off. It's so hard on her to keep up with this job with all her health issues. I have to wonder what that means to the rest of us when she does depart.

But North Carolina bigots are still watching 20/20 and believing every word without any research on their own. (Which you'd think she'd have a staff to do) and thereby proclaiming that Matthew Shepard being a fag had Absolutely Nothing to do with why he was targeted and crucified. And Egyptians are still killing pigs to prevent the "swine flu," and Barack Obama has still not made good on ANY of his campaign promises to us.

So the world still makes sense I guess.

it's raining cats and dogs and I need a morsel, and since I found a picture with my two favorite things yesterday, men and books, I thought I'd share the sweetest photo I think I've seen in a very long time:

It's just a prefect day to stay indoors and do a little smooching in the stacks.

Love
